Microsoft Free

Microsoft Free

The beginning of the end.

I have finally had enough of Microsoft and the last PC in the house has been moved to Linux.

The Microsoft 365 tenant will be shut down shortly.

The daughter is into graphic design, mainly Anime type material, but after the Australian government implemented the under 16 rules and Microsoft was obliged to comply, I was finally over Microsoft Windows 11 and its large updates and Family rules.

Microsoft Windows 11 has been ditched within this household, and we have moved to Linux and so far, we have had no issues. Although Libre Office has serious issues in relation to the latest Microsoft Office format, this is still available to us via our Microsoft 365 family plan, it does not require Microsoft 365 office installed on our Linux systems but is utilized via the web interface. That mate is just fine.

My daughter is now testing the open-source solutions recommended to me via Claude and so far, I have a thumbs up from my daughter on the open-source solutions available to her.

Printers just work, scanning documents just work, Wacom tablets just work. Everything just works. Adjust your update settings in your Linux OS and everything just works.

What's more Flatpak software solution just works although there are exceptions.

Sorry Microsoft, but you are becoming a pain-in-the-arse.

Linux updates require no large updates and normally do not require the replacement of hardware.
