If you dont know your android device is a rather communicative device. It is constantly chatting away in the background even if you are asleep.

Now if you have an egress firewall you can see what its doing, however this brings another complication. You may accidently block or wish to allow whitelisting certain domains that are say related to streaming services, cloud storage services or others.

Or you may just be curious. So how do you find out where your device is chatting to. Well, there is one method I know of that does not require advanced IT skills, a rooted device (don't do this it breaks many apps).

It's here.

netguard - no-root firewall - Android Apps on Google Play
Enjoy millions of the latest Android apps, games, music, movies, TV, books, magazines & more. Anytime, anywhere, across your devices.

What it does is act like a VPN connection (so you wont be able to use your VPN why you are running it). When setup correctly it will tell you app by app who is making connections and to where.

It is extremely handy and can actually save its output to a pcap file for further analysis in Wireshark.

Be sure to allow all connections via mobile and Wi-Fi to start or it will block everything which will annoy the hell out of you and turn on resolve IP addresses via DNS.
