Wi-Fi 7 - a quick look

To upgrade or not to upgrade
WiFi 7 vs WiFi 6 and 6E - Differences Explained
Should you upgrade to WiFi 7 or is it better to wait? In this article we compare WiFi 7 vs WiFi 7 and WiFi 6E and explain the differences

The Wi-Fi 7 standard became official at the beginning of 2024, only 4 years after the previous standard, Wi-Fi 6E. Now in 2025, we are seeing more and more Wi-Fi 7 capable routers and access points on the market, so the question arises, how does Wi-Fi 7 compare to Wi-Fi 6 and 6E?
Another issue is that a lot of features in WiFi 7 are optional, meaning that not all manufacturers will implement every feature. Look at the new UniFi U7 Lite for example, it doesn’t have the 6 GHz band, only offers 2×2 MU-MIMO (instead of 16×16 MU-MIMO), and doesn’t support MLO.
If you need a new access point, then there is nothing wrong with buying a Wi-Fi 7 capable one if the price isn’t that much higher than the Wi-Fi 6 version, just don’t rush with replacing your existing ones
Hmmm. Maybe not. Off to my favorite local Ubiquiti wholesaler for a price check.
